Bipartisan support given to legislation that guarantees annual cost-of-living increase.
House legislators recently finalized plans to secure a cost-of-living increase in veterans’ benefits for the upcoming year, and the legislation is expected to be signed into law by the White House. This guarantees that veterans’ support payments keep current with the rising costs of living and align with adjustments in Social Security and other federal compensations. Despite ongoing debates on federal spending, the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act passed both chambers of Congress without opposition.
“Our veterans put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms, and they deserve certainty when it comes to providing for their families,” said Senator Jon Tester, who chairs the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and sponsored the Senate version of this law.
Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Representative Mike Bost, said before the recent House vote that “veterans should not have to worry whether their earned benefits can cover their basic needs. They should not have to choose between gas to get to work or groceries for their family.”
The White House has consistently supported the measure and has not expressed any concerns about this year’s version of the legislation. However, officials did not mention when the measure would be signed.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of the House and Senate as they seek to ensure U.S. veterans have adequate compensation.
- For the president and his administration as they consider the measure for his signature.
